And a new day begins

So I decided that, instead of clogging up my Facebook page with all the strange and interesting things I find and see and experience, I'll start a blog. I know, I'm nothing if not original. So here we are, March 20, 2010.

My new favorite band of the moment:

Heard them on "Wait Wait Don't Tell me" on NPR this afternoon while I was driving through the farmlands north of town and falling in love with the beat up old barns, as I tend to do. Barns are just plain beautiful. Maybe if you grew up with them you don't find them quite as enchanting, but I didn't, and thus I do.

And I cannot even begin to explain this: http://www.i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=46248 but it truly does tend to make the majority of viewers want to gouge out their own eyes. And yet they cannot look away.............

So went down to the farmer's market on campus today. Been wanting to check it out for years but #1, I am always frightened by unfamiliar social situations, and #2, I did not, until recently, possess a campus parking pass ;). I love you, overpriced parking pass! The market was okay. A bit too commercial, a bit more crowded than I like, and sorely in need of a good drum circle, but overall it was a lovely start to a lovely spring day.

Some people, I'm sure, don't understand the amazing healing powers that sunshine and warmth can have on an Alaskan, but the transformation is truly magical. For the first time in many months I felt almost happy. All I needed to make it perfect was a good dog and a good man to share the day with, but lacking those I made the best of it.
